Affordable Family Fun Day

Start your day with a visit to Toddy Jones Park and let the little ones cool off in Amherstburg’s accessible interactive splash pad.  Unpack your picnic lunch in the park while they dry off to a casual meal.


Take a short stroll to Amherstburg’s Downtown Heritage District and choose ice cream, a smoothie or pizza and juice!  Enjoy the beauty of the manicured gardens of the King’s Navy Yard Park while you catch a glimpse of freighters squeezing through the shipping channel on Amherstburg’s waterfront. 


Explore and discover one of Amherstburg’s Museums.  Make a rope, hold a riffle….let the kids be engaged by the museum’s historically dressed re-enactors.


From out of town and want to spend the night?  Why not stay at one of  Amherstburg’s Camping Ground establishments.


Plan a visit around one of the many spectacular festivals and events that Amherstburg has to offer!


Authentic Explorers

Why not start your day capturing nature at its best.  Bring or rent a canoe and enjoy the natural habitat of local wildlife.  River Canard and Hillman Marsh are phenomenal water ways that lend themselves to novice or expert canoeing enthusiasts and Birders alike!   


All that paddling will stir up a hunger.  Head into Amherstburg’s Historic Downtown and take a moment to catch a bite to eat.  In the heart of Amherstburg’s Downtown there are several restaurants all within walking distance.  Italian, Japanese, English Tea or good ole Canadian Food like perch and pickerel - there is something for everyone.


Explore Amherstburg's bountiful county, definitely worthy of an afternoon drive. Visit a farm to purchase locally grown produce or hop on the Essex Pelee Island Coast's Wine Route and enjoy a sip of wine and an tour of the vineyards.


Visiting on Saturday?  Why not visit Amherstburg Farmers’ Market?  Meet our proud local farmers selling ONLY locally grown produce, meats, and even some unique artisan items.


Visiting in May?  Don’t miss the Hillman Marsh Spring Shore & Songbird Celebration.

Visiting in September?  Don’t miss the Hawk Festival at Holiday Beach Conservation Area or the Shores of Erie International Wine Festival.


History Buffs

Amherstburg is rich in historic charm and hosts a number of interactive museums to visit.  Starting in Historic Downtown Amherstburg, take a stroll to a local café, where you can enjoy your morning coffee along with a scenic stroll through King’s Navy Yard Park.  This 10.5 acre manicured park boasts a staging area for Ontario’s largest Provincial Marine Re-enactment Group.  Investigate the gardens and discover signs of an era gone by!

Amherstburg is host to several award winning events and festivals.  If you are planning a trip why not do so around a spectacular event.  Sample wine or beer on the grounds of a National Historic Site or witness the pride of a Canadian Citizenship Ceremony on Canada Day!  There is an activity for everyone.  All events can be seen under Amherstburg’s Festival and Events Listing.


Need a change of pace?  Enjoy a true island getaway to Boblo Island.  Once a restricted area is now open for the public to enjoy.  Rent a bike and take a casual ride on the trail that encompasses the island.  Stop for just a moment to witness the outstanding sunset, a foreign freighter or perhaps a bite to eat.
