Emergency Planning
Be Prepared
Emergencies
can happen at anytime and occur anywhere, sometimes without much
warning. An emergency can force you to evacuate your neighbourhood or
confine you to your home or workplace. It can leave you without basic
services such as water, gas, electricity or a working telephone. Are
you prepared?

Although
Ontario has effective emergency management legislation and programs,
individuals and families play a vital role in preparing for times of
crisis when emergency services and other government resources may be
strained. It is important that individuals and families prepare to take
care of themselves for at least three days immediately after or during
an emergency.Individuals and families are best able to cope when they have taken the time to prepare before an emergency happens.
Emergency Preparedness For Your Family
Would
you know what to do if an emergency occurred? Would your child, alone

Reverse 911
The County of Essex has implemented a telephone emergency notification system, known by its trade
name of Reverse 911, which permits our emergency services and coordinators to notify a large number of
affected residents and businesses in specific areas, in the event of incidents such as boil water advisories,
chemical spills, fires, floods, etc. The town of Amherstburg participates in its use, to assist in notification with other means (siren, system). For more information regarding this tool which assists in notifying the public click

COMMUNITY ALERTING SYSTEM
Amherstburg is covered by a series of sirens which enhance alerting in the event of an extreme emergency. Test of sirens occurs
the last Friday of each
month at 12 noon. If there is an emergency that could pose a serious
threat to the community, sirens will be activated in
areas where immediate action by the public is required. The sirens will emit a loud, pulsing
sound.
