War of 1812
June 18, 1812 saw the commencement of hostilities between the young American Republic and the English colony of Canada on behalf of the mother country. The most cherished outcome of this war was the enduring peace between the United States and Canada.
The Government of Canada, and Amherstburg recognizes the iconic role that the War of 1812 played in shaping our great country. We look forward to officially unveiling Amherstburg’s plans for the celebration and commemoration when they are finalized.

New Amherstburg Water Tower
A recent study on the integrity of the Town’s existing elevated water storage tank has determined that the tank needs to be replaced. The Town of Amherstburg Public Works Department will be overseeing the construction of a new Water Tower beginning in 2009. A new water tower will provide a secure supply of water during peak demand periods associated with fire fighting, as well as acting to stabilize water distribution pressure. This new tower will replace the existing tower on Alma Street. The location of the new tower is currently under review.
