A Letter From the Mayor

On behalf of Town Council I would like to welcome you to Amherstburg, Ontario, where the only thing we over look is the water! For many your visit will start with a beautiful scenic drive or bike along County Rd 20 which parallels the Detroit River and Lake Erie and will lead you right into the heart of Amherstburg.
While you’re here be sure to experience the past in all its glory by visiting our Historic sites including Fort Malden National Historic Site of Canada where you’ll learn about the war of 1812 and the Rebellion of 1837, The North American Black Historical Museum Complex and Nazrey A.M.E. Church National Historic Site where you’ll explore the role Amherstburg played in the Underground Railroad and our rich Black Heritage, The Park House Museum for a glimpse of life in the early 1800’s, The Gordon House which is one of the oldest structures of its kind in Ontario, and The Gibson Gallery (formerly the Michigan Central Railroad Station), which now features changing art exhibits from the Art Gallery of Windsor’s permanent collection and the Royal Ontario Museum.
If you are interested in wine making, then stop by our awarding winning wineries; D’Angelo Estate Winery, Sprucewood Shores Estate Winery and Sanson Estate Winery for a tour and sample of their prized products. Marina’s and golfing… we’ve got those too! Not to mention a number of terrific annual events including; Shores of Erie International Wine Festival, Doors’ Open Amherstburg, Art by the River , The Heritage Festival and The Garden Tour & Fair just to name a few. If you prefer the relaxing outdoors, stop by Holiday Beach Conservation Area or take hold of an ice cream and stroll through the King’s Navy Yard Park situated along the water. Don’t forget to bring your camera so you can capture the beauty of the park and the ocean and lake going freighters passing by.
A visit to Amherstburg just wouldn’t be complete without taking time to browse through our unique specialty shops and boutiques! And after all that shopping and site seeing take some time to enjoy a bite to eat at one of our many fine restaurants, they are sure to tempt and satisfy your taste buds!
There’s so much to see and do in Amherstburg, so bring the family and stay for a few days, whether you prefer staying aboard your boat at one of our marina’s, camping at Jellystone Park Camp - Resorts or simply the comforts of a cozy bed at one of our Motel’s or at a Bed & Breakfast. You’ll find hospitality at its best here in Amherstburg!
