Garbage collection occurs weekly.  Please refer to the Garbage Collection Map to confirm your day.

All garbage is to be placed in a suitable container such as a plastic bag, metal or plastic can or a Herby Curby.  Oversized and overweight containers are not acceptable.  Containers must be less than 45 lbs (20 kg) in weight.

Large Items & Furniture:  Items such as box springs, mattresses, couches, chairs, toilets and similar materials can be put out on any regular garbage day.

Electronics, household chemical waste, and construction materials (lumber, drywall, tile, etc.) will not be collected.  These items need to be disposed of at one of the three Public Drop Off Depots located within Windsor and Essex County.

If your garbage was not collected on your scheduled day, please contact Windsor Disposal Services at (519) 944-8009 or the Public Works Department at (519) 736-3664.

Yard waste

Yard waste curbside collection occurs every other Monday from the beginning of April to the end of November.  The Municipality is divided in two zones, north and south.  Please refer to the Yard Waste Roadside Collection Map to determine which zone you live in.

Place your yard waste curbside the night before your scheduled collection day.

If your pick up falls on a holiday, yard waste will be collected the Saturday prior to the holiday.

The only acceptable containers for yard waste are:  Paper yard waste bags, cardboard boxes, garbage cans/pails.  Note:  cardboard boxes are not returned.

Plastic bags containing yard waste will not be collected.

Tree trimmings must be cut and bundled into four foot lengths and shall be no larger than two feet in diameter.

Containers and tree trimming bundles are restricted to weights of 45 lbs (20 kg) or less.

If your garbage is not collected on your scheduled day, please contact Windsor Disposal Services at (519) 944-8009 or the Public Works Department at (519) 736-3664.

The recycling program is run through the Essex Windsor Solid Waste Authority.  Recycling throughout the entire Municipality is collected every other Friday.  Separate blue box items (plastic, glass, and cans) from red box items (paper products and cardboard).   Please see the Recycling Guide for further information on recyclable items.

Place your recycling curbside the night before your collection day.

While plastic bags has never been an accepted material in our recycling program, it may have been picked up during recycling curbside collection in the past.  However, as of June 1, 2020, the EWSWA recycling collectors will not collect recycling that contains plastic bags.

For general questions regarding the recycling program, please contact the Essex Windsor Solid Waste Authority at 1-800-563-3377 or email
