Water

The Water Division of the Engineering and Public Works Department provides clean and safe drinking water to residents and businesses within the Town of Amherstburg. In addition to residents and businesses located within the Town, Amherstburg's Water Treatment Plant also provides water to a few residents and businesses in the neighbouring areas of the Town of LaSalle and the Town of Essex.

Our Commitment

The Drinking Water Quality Management System Policy outlines our commitment:

  • To supply clean, safe drinking water
  • To maintain and improve the water distribution quality management system
  • To meeting all legislative and regulatory requirements, and customer needs

We have submitted our financial plan for the water distribution system to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing to fulfill the additional requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act's municipal drinking water licensing program.

Annual Reports

The updated annual Water Treatment Plant reports are prepared by the Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA). These reports summarize the Water Treatment Plant operations per the Ontario Drinking Water Systems Regulation O. Reg. 170/03.

Water and Sewer Rates

New water and sewer rates are approved by Town Council annually. The Town of Amherstburg reads the water meters and sends the information to Essex Powerlines Corporation to issue billings for water and sewer use.

After Hours Water Emergencies

If you wish to report a problem during regular business hours, such as a concern about a leaking water meter, a taste or odour concern, a possible watermain break, no water coming from your taps, or any other water related issue, please call the Engineering and Public Works Department at 519-736-3664.

If you require immediate assistance and are calling after 4:00 p.m. on a weekday or on the weekend, please call 519-561-6365.
