On November 15, 2018, the Town of Amherstburg held a Public Information and Consultation Meeting to receive resident feedback about cannabis retail stores within the Town of Amherstburg. A public request for feedback was also available at www.talktheburg.ca from November 16, 2018 until November 30, 2018. This feedback was compiled in a Report to Council.
Council considered the report on cannabis retail stores on January 21st, 2019. At this meeting, Council directed Administration to notify the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) that retail cannabis storefronts are permitted to operate in the Town of Amherstburg.

On October 15, 2019, By-law 2019-075 was approved by Amherstburg Town Council to amend Zoning By-law No. 1999-52 for Cannabis Cultivation and Production Facilities within the Town of Amherstburg. This by-law sets out regulations for production and cultivation of cannabis within the Town of Amherstburg.
