Street Naming Policy
Amherstburg's cultural history includes historical places, events, and people. As a community, we recognize the historical people who have contributed to the Town through the Street Naming Policy.
Before the adoption of the Municipal Street Naming Policy, streets were named based on suggestions from the development community or the list of veterans’ names located on the Town of Amherstburg’s cenotaph. The list of veteran names has been exhausted, apart from the “Fox” name. The Town adopted the Street Naming Policy in 2017 to expand the list of available names.
New street names should be selected from the approved Street Naming Inventory List.

Street Names not on the Approved List
If you would like to apply to use a street name that is not on the Approved Street Name Inventory List, please make an application to the Planning Department.
Applications for alternate street names have to be endorsed by the Heritage Committee before being received by Council. This process may take more than two months, as the Heritage Committee meets once every two months.
