The safety of Amherstburg residents is a top priority. In the event of a nuclear emergency at Fermi II, it is important to know the protective actions to take.

Evacuation for a Nuclear Emergency at Fermi II

If an evacuation is ordered due to a nuclear event at Fermi II, a Reception Center will be established to assist affected residents.

At the Reception Center:

  • Registration will be completed for residents and their vehicles
  • Monitoring and decontamination of residents and vehicles will be performed if necessary
  • Emergency supplies will be provided to support those evacuated

KI Pills

If a nuclear incident causes radioactive iodine to be released into the environment, there is a risk that the thyroid gland could be exposed to this radioactive substance. Taking potassium iodide (KI) tablets is one method to help shield the thyroid from the damaging effects of radioactive iodine. Important - KI Pills are only to be taken when instructed to do so by Provincial authorities
