Blue Recycling Carts Coming to Amherstburg This Fall

The transition to the new single-stream recycling system is not a municipal decision. Under provincial regulations, producers of recyclable materials (private businesses) are now legally responsible for managing and funding the residential recycling system in Ontario. These producers have contracted Circular Materials to oversee recycling collection and program operations across the region. As such, this transition and related decisions are made by Circular Materials and the producers, not by the Town of Amherstburg or the Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority (EWSWA). For official program details and updates, please visit their website.

Blue Recycling Carts Coming to Amherstburg This Fall

Blue recycling carts are being delivered across the region this fall as Essex-Windsor prepares to transition to a single-stream recycling system beginning January 1, 2026.

This new system will make recycling easier and more convenient for residents. Instead of separating recyclables into blue and red bins, all recyclable materials will be placed together in a single blue cart. The carts also help reduce litter and offer greater storage capacity.

When your cart is delivered, please store it until the new year, as the new system begins on January 1, 2026.

Residents are reminded that this recycling program is managed by Circular Materials, not by the Town of Amherstburg or the Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority.

For full details about the transition to single-stream recycling, including delivery schedules, accepted materials, and frequently asked questions, please visit Circular Materials’ Essex-Windsor webpage

More information will also be shared with residents in the coming weeks.
