It’s officially Local Government Week, and the Town of Amherstburg is proud to celebrate the incredible work our local government professionals do every day to make life happen, from roads and water to parks, tourism, recreation programs, and so much more.
Throughout the week, the Town will share daily social media posts highlighting the many ways local government impacts daily life, builds community, and shapes the future of Amherstburg.
Here’s what to expect throughout the week:
Sunday, October 19 – Local Government Week begins! Amherstburg celebrates the dedicated professionals who keep our town running smoothly and provide the essential services that make Amherstburg a great place to live, work, and visit.
Monday, October 20 – What is Local Government? Did you know there are 444 municipalities across Ontario? Local governments deliver many of the services we rely on every day — from waste collection and clean water to building, planning, and recreation. Amherstburg is proud to play its part in serving our residents and community.
Tuesday, October 21 – Services Spotlight When you turn on the tap, drive down a road, or enjoy a park, you’re experiencing the everyday impact of local government. Amherstburg continues to provide reliable services that enhance quality of life for residents and businesses alike.
Wednesday, October 22 – Municipal and Provincial Relationship Municipalities are established through provincial legislation and deliver many services on behalf of the province. From roads and water to public health and recreation, municipalities make life happen at the local level.
Thursday, October 23 – Community Building Local government is more than roads and services — it’s about building strong, connected communities. Amherstburg invests in arts, culture, recreation, and events that bring people together and make our town unique.
