Notice of Municipal Election

Pursuant to the requirements of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, the Town of Amherstburg will conduct a municipal election on October 26, 2026 for the following offices:

Municipal:

  • Mayor, to be elected at large
  • Deputy Mayor, to be elected at large
  • 5 Councillors, to be elected at large

School Board Trustees (1 each):

  • Greater Essex County District School Board
  • Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board
  • Conseil Scolaire Viamond Geographic Area # 10
  • Conseil Scolaire Catholique Providence Secteur Geographic # 6

Qualifications for Candidates

To run for municipal office in Ontario, a person is entitled to be an elector if, on Voting Day (October 26, 2026), they:

  • reside in the local municipality, or is the owner or tenant of land there;
  • is a Canadian citizen;
  • is at least 18 years old;
  • and is not prohibited from voting or holding office under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 or otherwise by law.

Voting Method

For the 2026 Municipal Election, the Town of Amherstburg will utilize the traditional method of voting whereby electors will attend a prescribed polling location to cast their ballot. Electronic tabulators will be utilized to assist in the counting of the ballots. This is the same method that was used in the 2022 election.

Voters List

Beginning with the 2026 municipal election, Elections Ontario has taken over responsibility for managing the Municipal Voters List. Visit vreg.registertovoteon.ca confirm your information, update your details, or add your name and home address. You may also remove your own information or that of a deceased individual from the list.
