Now Hiring: Engineering Technologist (Contract)

The Corporation of the Town of Amherstburg is recruiting for an Engineering Technologist (Contract Position - up to 6-months)
Responsibilities
- Assist the Manager, Engineering in establishing present and future infrastructure requirements for the Municipality
- Assist in evaluating subdivision servicing plans, technical reports, and studies as submitted by Developers
- Research and prepare documents for the creation and maintenance of standards for Municipal works
- Prepare various Requests for Proposal documents as well as evaluating proposal submissions
- Complete studies and reviews and provide comments on studies and reports submitted by others
- Provide Engineering information to the public and private sector, and other departments
- Respond to inquiries / complaints by providing information, explanation and/or interpretation as necessary
- Carryout investigations for engineering matters
- Prepare cost estimates, projections, and detailed information on capital works for the Manager, Engineering in the preparation of all capital budgets
- Use field gathered survey data and information for the creation of maps and documents for in house design projects
- Prepare cost estimates, prepare design plans and contract documents, tender, administer and provide inspection for in-house engineering projects
- Maintain communication with contract administrators throughout construction projects while providing on-site inspections and attending construction progress meetings
- Liaise with Consultants and utility companies to facilitate the location and/or relocation of utilities
- Administer the Town’s ROW permit policy as it pertains to utility companies and utility construction
- Maintain infrastructure records, including plans and information systems both digital and paper drawings
- Update data related to the Town’s Tangible Capital Assets and asset management system
- Assist in the review and approval of engineering construction drawings prepared by consultants and developers
- Provide contract administration and site inspection on construction projects for contracted capital works projects
- Understand and adhere to the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Town’s health and safety policies and procedures
Qualifications
Education:
- Post Secondary Education including a University degree or 3- year Technologist Diploma in Civil Engineering, or a program deemed equivalent.
Professional Designation:
- Licensed by Professional Engineers Ontario as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or eligible, or as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.), or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
Work Experience
3-5 years of relevant experience with municipal government in engineering, public works and/or a combination of training, education and experience deemed equivalent.

Work Conditions
Work is conducted in an office and outdoor environment in all weather conditions. Hours of work are 37.5 per week, Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime and evening and off-site meetings as required. Attendance at Council meetings may be required. Occasional lifting up to 10 kg.
This is a full-time, temporary position (up to 6-months). The 2026 salary range is $81,983 to $102,479
