Now Hiring: Executive Assistant/Communications Assistant to the Director, Parks, Facilities and Recreation

The Corporation of the Town of Amherstburg is recruiting for an Executive Assistant/Communications Assistant to the Director, Parks, Facilities and Recreation.

The Executive Assistant/Communications Assistant provides full administrative support to the assigned office/department specific to the reporting structure, and acts as a liaison between The Director, Parks, Facilities and Recreation, and all members of the SMT, constituents and other internal and external contacts. The position also ensures effective coordination and communications between respective departments to ensure efficient operations of the assigned department/divisions and the Executive Office. The Executive Assistant/Communications Assistant liaises with Town’s departments to coordinate, create and support internal and external Town communications and the day-to-day functions of the department to ensure efficiencies and optimal operations. The Executive Assistant/Communications Assistant will also lead and support various department/ division specific projects specific in alignment with goals and objectives of the Town’s Strategic Plan.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Minimum 3-year college diploma or University Degree in public or business administration, public relations or media or digital communications studies or related field;
  • Completion, or demonstrated progress towards completion of the Municipal Administration Program through AMTCO considered an asset (must be willing to complete training); and
  • Education and Awareness regarding Indigenous Relations, considered an asset ( must be willing to complete training).

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of agenda and minute preparation;
  • General knowledge of related sections of the Municipal Act and municipal by-laws;
  • Knowledge of public relations and departmental communications;
  • Knowledge of Social Media considered an asset; and
  • Advanced computer knowledge in MS Office, Outlook, Adobe, Excel and PowerPoint.

Skills:

  • Demonstrated superior administrative support and clerical skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage social media and promote the Corporation’s activities using various mediums;
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret by-laws, legislation, and policies as required;
  • Demonstrated ability to address and prioritize multiple tasks and requests and work independently;
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines;
  • Possess strong leadership, time-management, project management, organizational and research skills with a keen sense for accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and security of confidential information is essential;
  • Demonstrated above average customer service and communication skills;
  • Fundamental math, accounting and budgeting skills; and
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare clear, communications products and materials.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant administrative, project management and customer service experience, preferably in a municipal or public sector environment;
  • Minimum 2 years experience providing cross departmental corporate communications supports, direct experience preferred but transferrable relevant experience will be considered;
  • Experience with communications products, social media, marketing and public relations;
  • Supervisory experience, considered an asset;
  • Experience proofreading materials for grammar, spelling and readability including experience with accessibility design standards; and
  • Experience in Indigenous Relations, considered an asset.

Work Conditions

Work is conducted in an office environment with off-site meetings as required. Hours of work are 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday with overtime as required. Attendance at Council meetings and special project meetings and special events as required. Occasional lifting up to 10 kg.

The 2026 Salary Range for this position is $74,783 to $93,477.
