Now Hiring: General Labourer
The General Labourer will be working in the Parks, Facilities, and Recreation Department of the Town of Amherstburg. Work will be coordinated by the Manager, Facilities or designate to meet the needs of both the Libro Centre/Facility operations and Parks department.
Responsibilities ·
- Assists in the installation and removal of ice, ice painting, and ice maintenance;
- Monitors refrigeration equipment and completes log books in accordance with TSSA regulations; ·
- Assists in artificial turf and sport field marking and maintenance;
- Performs, janitorial duties for all designated Town facilities;
- Paints and maintains benches, picnic tables, bollards, etc.;
- Performs snow removal and winter control for Town facilities, sidewalks and parking lots;
- Assists with Facilities maintenance duties as directed including, but not limited to preparation of construction site, maintaining building equipment, painting, light construction and repair work to town owned buildings, following building code and industry standards, for building and construction related work;
- Performs and records vehicle circle checks and reports deficits to the Mechanic and Manager, as required;
- Assists with set-up, tear-down, and clean-up for rentals and all special events;
- Follows all safety policies and procedures; and
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (Grade 12), or General Educational Development Certificate (GED) as an equivalent;
- Must possess a Class G driver’s license in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act, and provide a driver’s abstract as a condition of employment;
- Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in arenas, and/or facility maintenance/janitorial, considered an asset; ·
- Post-secondary education in Construction, Sports Management or Skilled trades, considered an asset;
- Certified Ice Technician (CIT) and/or Certified Grounds Technician (CGT), and/or Certified Building Technician (CBT) certificates, considered an asset(s);
- Must be familiar with and follow all safety policies and procedures of the Town;
- Must have demonstrated good public relations skills and effective communication skills; and
- Must be able to work well with a minimum amount of supervision and as part of a team.
Work Experience
Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in arenas, and/or facility maintenance/janitorial, considered an asset.

Work Conditions
- General Labourers are involved in a variety of physical activities including lifting (up to 90lbs), digging, shoveling, raking, climbing ladders, pull starting equipment, operating small and large vehicles and equipment, walking, twisting, bending, pushing, pulling, working in awkward positions and
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and in all weather conditions.
The 2025 wage for this position is $27.75/hr
