Now Hiring: Roads Operator

The Roads Operator is responsible for the inspection/maintenance of the Town wide transportation network and the open/municipal drain system. Duties include:  road repairs, winter control, shoulders/sidewalk maintenance, surface water drainage concerns, catch basin repairs, trimming/felling and chipping of trees, sign maintenance, responding to resident and contractor concerns, loading and operating heavy equipment, restoration of damages, and maintaining logbooks.

Responsibilities

  • Operate tools and equipment, including heavy equipment, hand/power tools, chipper, manlift, and other various machinery
  • Operate equipment such as grader, backhoe, dump truck, etc.
  • Set grades and slopes for ditches and culvert/pipe installation
  • Inspect, maintain, repair, and install storm sewer catch basins
  • Operate equipment for winter control
  • Perform general labour work including, digging, lifting, carrying, painting, carpentry, and building maintenance
  • Complete reports regarding tasks assigned
  • Road repairs including hot and cold patching
  • Install and maintain signs
  • Cut trees, weeds, and grass from roadsides and ditches
  • Direct traffic
  • Maintain logbook
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Ontario Grade 12 Graduation Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3-5 years previous related experience
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Hold and maintain a valid Class “DZ” driver’s licence
  • Must obtain acceptable police clearance and driver’s abstract
  • Construction experience working with surface and underground infrastructure
  • Previous experience reading blueprints is an asset

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 3-5 years previous related experience
  • Construction experience working with surface and underground infrastructure

Employment Level: Full-time

Work Conditions

  • Physical work environment requiring extended periods of walking, standing, lifting, crouching, bending, kneeling, climbing, and sitting. Duties shall be performed both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, and also within resident dwellings. Manual dexterity to operate heavy equipment, use hand tools, desktop computer, peripherals, vinyl cutter, etc. Safety equipment as required (i.e. safety shoes, glasses/goggles, gloves, hearing protection, respirator, etc.)

The 2025 wage range for this position is $32.65 to $35.94.
