Now Hiring: Special Events Coordinator

The Town of Amherstburg is currently recruiting for a Special Events Coordinator (contract position).
NATURE OF WORK: Reporting to the Manager, Economic Development and Tourism, the Special Events Coordinator is responsible for providing overall support to the Tourism and Culture Department for on site duties during key hours as necessary to ensure successful delivery of key activities, on point contact and coverage for special events. This position will also be responsible in executing and monitoring the tourism and culture social media platform (visitamherstburg.ca) which includes Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and the Town website during special events.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Acts as the on-site lead for the hours of operations during major Special Events including Open Air Weekends, up to and including River Lights Winter Festival;
- Assists with enhanced programming such as coordination of Night Markets, Concert Music Series, Entertainment and Visitor inquiries/experiences including opening and closing procedures;
- Assists with on-site staff call ins/ replacements for sick leave, relieve for breaks during time of event;
- Provides regular and timely communication regarding program and event schedules to internal and external stakeholder with accurate “real time” communication;
- Documents of real time incident reports ensuring the appropriate consultation and responsive actions are provided;
- Assists with implementation of activity schedule for the special event;
- Implements, Records and Reports visitor survey results and visitor data (statistics) during Special Events;
- Provides, up to date weather monitoring and visitor notifications;
- Assists with all aspects of Special Events and Open Air administration and planning/coordination;
- Implements Town branded merchandise sales and reconciliation of sales;
- Understands and adhere to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Town Health and Safety policies and procedures and;
- Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 2-year College diploma in marketing, tourism or a related discipline and or; minimum 2 years’ experience in this field
- Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in tourism, marketing, large scale event planning
- Proven experience in public relations;
- Experience working in a team setting, required and;
- Superior communication and customer service experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of market research techniques and tourism metrics;
- Knowledge of advertising and promotional applications including editing and some graphic design and;
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills, written and oral communication skills;
- Demonstrated strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize assigned tasks and responsibilities within established timelines;
- Proven problem-solving abilities with a strong attention to detail and;
- Demonstrated project management skills.
Employment Level: Part-time
POSITION PARTICULARS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is conducted primarily in the weekend and evening hours with a large amount of work being completed outdoors. Some aspects of the work are completed within an office environment. Attendance at Town sponsored events is required. Work hours are 37.5 hours per week inclusive of evenings, weekends and holidays. Must be able to work in all weather conditions and occasionally lift up to 10 kg for event set-up and take-down.
The wage range for this position is $28.91 to $31.46 per hour.
