Now Hiring: Water/Wastewater Operator

The Town of Amherstburg is currently recruiting for TWO (2) Permanent, Full-Time Water/Wastewater Operators.
NATURE OF WORK: Reporting to the Supervisor, Environmental Services, the Water/Wastewater Operator is responsible for the inspection and maintenance of the water distribution system, wastewater collection system, and storm sewer collection system.
APPLICANT QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPEREINCE:
- Class 1 Water Distribution, as regulated by the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks
- Class 1 Wastewater Collection, as regulated by the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks
- Ontario Grade 12 Graduation Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 3-5 years previous related experience
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Hold and maintain a valid Class “DZ” driver’s licence
- Construction experience working with underground infrastructure Responsibilities
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Locating of the water distribution system, wastewater collection system and storm sewer collection system
- Inspect, maintain, repair, and install water distribution mains, service lines, and some water meters · Inspect, maintain, repair, and install wastewater mains and services
- Inspect, maintain, repair, and install storm sewer mainlines, laterals and/or connections
- Commissioning of new watermains
- Operate tools and equipment, including heavy equipment, hand/power tools, chipper, manlift, and other various machinery
- Operate equipment such as backhoe, dump truck, etc.
- Set grades and slopes for culvert/pipe installation
- Inspect, maintain, repair, and install storm sewer catch basins
- Operate equipment for winter control
- Perform general labour work including, digging, lifting, carrying, painting, carpentry, and building maintenance
- Complete reports regarding tasks assigned
- Electrical street light locates
- Direct traffic
- Maintain logbook
- All other duties as assigned
Employment Level: Full-time
The 2025 hourly rate for this position is $36.77
POSITION PARTICULARS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: Physical work environment requiring extended periods of walking, standing, lifting, crouching, bending, kneeling, climbing, and sitting. Duties shall be performed both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, and also within resident dwellings. Manual dexterity to operate heavy equipment, use hand tools, water testing equipment, tapping machine, desktop computer, peripherals, vinyl cutter, etc. Safety equipment as required (i.e. safety shoes, glasses/goggles, gloves, hearing protection, respirator, etc.)
