Recycling Program 2026

Starting January 1, 2026, the Essex-Windsor region will transition to a cart-based, single-stream recycling program managed by Circular Materials. As part of this change, each household in Amherstburg will receive a 360-litre wheeled, lidded recycling cart, designed to hold two weeks’ worth of recyclables and accommodate a broader range of accepted materials.

Recycling Cart Exchange Request Form

If the 360-litre cart does not meet your household’s needs, residents may request an exchange for a smaller 240-litre recycling cart through the Recycling Cart Exchange Request Form on the Circular Materials website. Circular Materials recommends using the issued 360-litre cart for at least three bi-weekly collection cycles (approximately six weeks) before submitting an exchange request, allowing households time to assess their recycling needs under the new system.

January 2026 Collection Calendar

Residents may notice that January 2026 recycling dates are not included in the current Collection Calendar due to this transition. Recycling collection will continue on the same bi-weekly schedule in the new year, with updated 2026 calendars distributed in early 2026.

January 2026 recycling pickup dates are:

  • Friday, January 9
  • Friday, January 23

Please ensure your recycling cart is placed at the curb for collection on these dates.
