Applications Open for Joint Municipal Election Compliance Audit Committee

The Town of Amherstburg, in partnership with the Towns of Essex, Kingsville, LaSalle, Tecumseh, and the Municipality of Lakeshore, is inviting residents to apply for appointment to the Joint Municipal Election Compliance Audit Committee for the 2026–2030 Term of Council.
Under Section 88.37 of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, municipalities are required to establish an Election Compliance Audit Committee prior to October 1 in an election year. This Committee is responsible for reviewing matters related to election campaign finances and contributions.
Applications are now being accepted and will remain open until Friday, July 17, 2026 at 4:30 p.m.
The Committee’s term will align with the 2026–2030 Term of Council, with appointments running from November 15, 2026 to November 14, 2030. The Committee will consider applications for compliance audits arising from the 2026 Municipal Election, as well as any by-elections held during the term, across all participating municipalities.
The Committee will consist of five (5) members and one (1) alternate member drawn from the public. Applicants should have demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Accounting and Audit – experience preparing or auditing financial statements for municipal candidates
- Legal – lawyers or other legal professionals
- Academia – post-secondary educators with expertise in political science or local government administration
- Municipal Governance and Elections – individuals with experience in government administration or knowledge of campaign finance rules under the Act
