Tai Chi is a Chinese martial art which has been practiced for generations. The movements for this class are slow, with footwork choreographed by a leader. Participants learn to breathe correctly, focusing on how they intake and release air while moving. Tai Chi improves balance, strengthen muscles, improves immune function, cognitive functions and memory and can reduce depression, anxiety and other emotional or mental health conditions.
Senior Active Living Centre
Ontario is committed to helping older adults stay safe, healthy, active, and socially connected in their communities. Seniors Active Living Centres (SALC) programs meet the emerging needs of Ontario seniors and reduce demand on acute care as the overall health and well-being of Ontario seniors improves.
The Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility (MSAA/the Ministry) funds the SALC program to support organizations to deliver sustainable programs to support seniors. The SALC Program is established by the Seniors Active Living Centres Act, 2017, (SALCA), which defines the SALC Program purpose “to promote active and healthy living, social engagement and learning for persons who are primarily seniors by providing them with activities and services.”
The Town of Amherstburg has been approved for Provincial funding to operate SALC programs at the Libro Centre, Amherstburg Community Services, as well as at 179 Victoria.
