Barrels & Brass Brings Prohibition-Era Amherstburg Back to Life

History will come alive in downtown Amherstburg this upcoming weekend as the Marsh Historical Collection presents Barrels & Brass, a unique three-day event celebrating the town's fascinating Prohibition-era past.

Taking place on the historic downtown streets of Amherstburg, August 21–23, Barrels & Brass will transport visitors back to the 1920s, when the area played a significant role in the era of rum running. Through immersive experiences, live entertainment and historical interpretation, the event offers an opportunity to explore one of the most colourful chapters in the community's history.

Visitors will enjoy living history demonstrations, storytelling, period-inspired entertainment and interactive experiences that showcase what life was like during the Jazz Age. The event will also feature Rum Runners Tours, giving participants a closer look at the stories and legends that emerged along the Detroit River during Prohibition.
