E-Bike Education: Know The Rules Before You Ride

Before hitting the road on your e-bike, make sure you know the rules:

• Riders must be 16+ and wear an approved helmet.
• Follow all traffic signs, signals and rules of the road.
• E-bikes must meet Ontario requirements, including a 500-watt maximum motor and 32 km/h maximum assisted speed.
• A driver's licence, vehicle registration, or vehicle liability insurance is not required to operate an e-bike.
• E-bikes are not permitted on sidewalks, park pathways or roads where bicycles are prohibited.
• Make sure your e-bike meets Ontario’s legal requirements before riding.

Vehicles that do not meet the definition of an e-bike may be subject to different licensing, registration and insurance requirements.
