Earth Day Tree Activities and University of Windsor's Map & Grow Project

About the 2025 Earth Day tree-related events in Amherstburg.

Trees were both planted and given away at a pair of Earth Day events in Amherstburg on the weekend.

Map and Grow Program University Research Report
A spatial tree survey for the Town of Amherstburg combatting localized climate change one tree at a time.
The Map & Grow project started because of Thrive! Amherstburg's goal was to increase tree cover within Amherstburg on both private and public land year after year. This mission has aligned with the University of Windsor's hopes to open up the potential for future analysis using a student-made geodatabase containing tree data collected over a number of years. After the finalization of the geodatabase created by the current Map and Grow group, we plan to hand the project down to future students who may then use this database to monitor canopy growth with remote sensing and build air pollution models for this region.
