Green Bin Collection Begins First Week of November in Amherstburg, Kingsville, and Leamington

Shared on behalf of the Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority
The Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority (EWSWA) will begin Green Bin collection for single-family homes in the Phase 2 municipalities of Amherstburg, Kingsville, and Leamington starting the first week of November. These three Phase 2 municipalities will join Essex, Lakeshore, LaSalle, Tecumseh, and Windsor, where Green Bin collection began in October 2025.
“Every household that uses the Green Bin helps extend the life of our only local landfill, avoid the high costs of siting a new one, and support the agriculturally rich lands that serve us all,” said Cathy Copot-Nepszy, Manager of Waste Diversion. “The Authority encourages residents to start using their Green Bin the last week of October, so they are ready for the first collection in November.”
Getting Ready for Collection
Residents can find their weekly collection day through the Recycle Coach App, their municipal calendar, or www.ewswa.org.
Green Bins must be set out by 6 AM on collection day so they are not missed by the collection truck. Only the EWSWA Green Bin can be used, and residents who choose to use compostable bags must use bags with the BNQ/BPI certification logos.
Collection trucks use automated arms to empty the Green Bin, so set-out matters. Residents are asked to use Park-Point-Space (P-P-S): park the Green Bin about 30 cm behind the curb, point the arrows on the lid towards the street, and leave at least one metre of space between the bin and other carts or structures.
Residents should also watch for an “OOPS!” or Gold Star sticker on the Green Bin once they start using the program. These stickers look to provide feedback on how they are using the program.
