The Town of Amherstburg is currently recruiting for a Financial Services Clerk.

NATURE OF WORK:

The Financial Service Clerk performs accounting functions within all areas of the Financial Services Department. Responsibilities may include Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Property Tax support functions for all departments under the auspices of the Town of Amherstburg.

CONTROLS OVER THE WORK:

Reporting to either the Supervisor of Revenue or the Supervisor of Accounting, the Financial Services Clerk follows established methods for provision of services to Town departments.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for various accounting duties within the Financial Services Division including:

  • Processes of Property Tax transactions;
  • Responds to property tax and general inquiries by telephone or at the customer service desk;
  • Collects, records, and reconciles payments for property tax, water and other general cash receipts over the counter and through mail on a timely basis;
  • Daily balancing of cash drawers and preparation of bank deposits’
  • Receives meter readings, loads and edits water reading for billing purposes. And ensures final readings are entered, completed and billed;
  • Processes post-dated payments, bank payments, and telephone and internet payments;
  • Maintains pre-authorized payment plans, including the transmission of files to the bank for processing on due dates;
  • Monitors and collect overdue accounts, which includes sending reminder notices, statements and follow up phone calls;
  • Process and reconcile Accounts Receivable and Drainage transactions;
  • Processes and reconciles Accounts Payables;
  • Verifies that purchase orders are issued in accordance with the procurement policy to support invoice processing and payments;
  • Prepares and reconciles bank accounts;
  • Processes HST remittances and payments;
  • Performs general account analysis and reconciliations;
  • Assists in year-end audit preparation including preparation of supporting schedules, as required; ·      Supports basic budget tracking and financial reporting;
  • Understands and adheres to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Town Health and Safety policies and procedures; and
  • Performs other related duties as required within the Financial Services Division

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2 year College diploma or degree in accounting, business or commerce
  • 2 years’ experience in an accounting-related position
  • Experience in a computerized environment with accounts payable, purchase orders, accounts receivable, drains, utility billing, property taxes, cash receipting and general accounting
  • Experience with municipal property taxes is considered an asset

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of iCity/Vadim Software is an asset
  • Intermediate accounting skills
  • Knowledge and proficiency in the use of computer programs including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel); with intermediate skills in Excel
  • A high level of confidentiality, interpersonal, communication and customer relations skills
  • Strong analytical skills with close attention to detail
  • Strong organization and time management skills to effectively prioritize, complete and deliver assigned tasks and responsibilities within strict time lines
  • Strong work ethic with abilities to work independently and as part of a team

POSITION PARTICULARS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • The office hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (37.5 hours per week)
  • This union position has an hourly wage as described in the current Collective Agreement
  • Work involves sitting and working on a computer for long periods of time, and light lifting up to 10 kg.
  • The 2026 wage range for this unionized position is $33.63 to $37.01 per hour.
