Now Hiring: Manager, Roads and Fleet

The Corporation of the Town of Amherstburg is recruiting for a Manager, Roads and Fleet.
Reporting to the Director, Infrastructure Services, the Manager, Roads and Fleet will be responsible for the day-to-day management, supervision and evaluation of roads, sidewalks, culverts, bridges, traffic signals and street lighting and managing fleet and equipment for the Town of Amherstburg.
Responsibilities
- Manages road surfaces on all asphalt, surface treated and gravel roads in the municipality such as resurfacing intervals, culvert/bridge replacement, line painting, and grade and resurface gravel on loose top roads;
- Manages the municipality’s storm drainage system which includes rural roadside ditches, culverts, urban storm sewers, storm manholes, storm cleanouts and storm service connections;
- Manages Winter Control Operations including plowing and sanding/salting of all municipal roads;
- Manages signage, traffic signal operations and street lighting;
- Manages the inspection and maintenance of the Town's sidewalk infrastructure;
- Manages the Town's West Nile Program and Nuisance Mosquito Program;
- Manages street boulevard forestry programs including assessment, Tree Trimming, Tree Planting and Tree removal Programs;
- Oversees all maintenance and repairs of the Town’s fleet (excluding Fire) and Public Works equipment including tendering for new vehicles and equipment;
- Manages the training for roads equipment operators to ensure that all legislative requirements are met;
- Provides input to the annual budget (operating and capital);
- Provides technical expertise and coordinates with other Managers regarding operating issues, new development, and capital projects;
- Provides advice to residents, business associates, and community groups;
- Reports to Council on various roads and fleet matters, attends Council meetings as necessary;
- Attends public meetings, as required;
- Serves as acting Director, Infrastructure Services, acting Manager of Environmental Services, acting Manager of Engineering, as necessary;
- Prepares project estimates to be included in annual budgets and monitor expenditures;
- Understands and adhere to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Town policies and procedures; and
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum three (3) year College diploma in Civil Engineering or equivalent education;
- Must be a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) in good standing with OACETT or other professional accreditation;
- Designation as a Certified Road Supervisor, considered an asset
- Possess valid Ontario Class ‘G’ driver’s license and maintenance of acceptable driving record.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, communication, planning, presentation, problem solving, staff leadership and supervisory skills;
- Ability to deal effectively with all levels of staff and elected officials, developers, consultants, contractors, government agencies and the public;
- Excellent skills in the design, supervision and contract management of municipal infrastructure;
- Knowledge of related legislation such as the Occupational Health & Safety Act and other applicable legislation; demonstrated judgment and ability to critically assess options within the context of applicable legislation and Town policies to guide decisions;
- Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer service, communication, teamwork, initiative/self-management, accountability, flexibility and adaptability;
- General knowledge of Municipal legislation and general business practices and protocol; and
- Proficient in MS Office software applications and adaptability to program specific software including civil engineering design software (AutoCAD).
Work Experience
- Seven (7) years’ experience in municipal government with experience in Public Works or an equivalent management position with other levels of government, corporate or non-profit sector

Work Conditions
Work will be conducted in both an office environment and outdoors in all weather conditions. The regular workweek is Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week. May be required to work beyond normal office hours in order to meet deadlines, attend after hours meetings and respond to after-hours emergencies and winter control operations.
The 2026 salary range for this position is $115,917 to $144,896
