Now Hiring: Supervisor, Roads and Fleet

The Corporation of the Town of Amherstburg is recruiting for a Supervisor, Roads and Fleet.
Reporting to the Manager, Roads and Fleet and under the overall direction of the Director of Infrastructure Services, the Supervisor, Roads and Fleet is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the roads and fleet area – including planning, scheduling, prioritizing and training employees in the roads and fleet area, which encompasses public roads, sidewalks, winter control, storm sewers and storm water management facilities, street lights, tree maintenance, signage, traffic signals, and fleet.
Responsibilities
- Plans, schedules, prioritizes, trains and supervises the day-to-day operations of the roads and fleet area and employees in a unionized environment;
- Monitors the completion of work orders;
- Maintains standards for annual inspections of all regulatory and warning traffic signs for retro reflectivity;
- Manages, organizes, and resolves unexpected factors and conditions including but not limited to personnel issues, equipment breakdown, weather conditions, and complaints;
- Prepares, releases, reviews and recommends various capital and operations tender document submittals and bids;
- Prepares and manage employee work schedules;
- Assists HR in developing employee training initiatives;
- Addresses customer inquiries and concerns in accordance with the Customer Services Standards set by the Town;
- Understands and adheres to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Town health and safety policies and procedures;
- Reviews and approve purchase orders;
- Ensures compliance of all relevant legislation and regulations;
- Manages contractors to ensure acceptable performance on road and fleet projects; and
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Minimum of three (3) year recognized University degree/College diploma in Engineering or equivalent education and/or experience in a related discipline
- Certified Road Superintendent classification from the Association of Ontario Road Supervisors, or be qualified to obtain the designation, required;
- Experience reading blueprints especially for road construction;
- A valid Ontario driver’s license is required; DZ licence considered an asset;
- Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technician Technologists, or other professional accreditation, considered an asset;
- Knowledge of provincial Weed Act, considered an asset; and
- Must have experience in maintaining tactful relations with unionized personnel, management, Council, other departments, user groups, contractors, utility agencies, and the public.
- Must have knowledge and application of computer software programs in a Microsoft Office environment, with an emphasis on operational maintenance systems;
- Must have problem solving and conflict resolution skills; and
- Must have positive and functional leadership skills.
Work Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of municipal experience in Public Works, preferred or equivalent operational environment;
- Minimum of three (3) years supervisory experience;
- Experience supervising in a unionized environment, preferred

Work Conditions
Work is conducted in an office environment. Hours of work are 37.5 per week, Monday through Friday, with some evening and weekend work as required.
Attendance at Council meetings and off-site meetings may be required.
On-call for after-hours and emergency call-ins. Occasional lifting up to 10 kg.
The 2026 salary range for this position is $88,370 to $110,460
