Provincial Day of Action on Litter – May 12, 2026

Ontario’s annual Provincial Day of Action on Litter is on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. This initiative raises awareness about the impacts of litter on our environment and highlights how small, everyday actions can make a meaningful difference in keeping our community clean, safe, and welcoming.

Take simple steps to reduce litter, including:

• Carrying reusable bags and containers
• Avoiding single-use plastics
• Recycling properly
• Picking up litter when you see it
• Reporting illegal dumping

Give Old Items a Second Life

The Day of Action on Litter is also a great opportunity to rethink waste and find creative ways to reuse items at home. Old recycling boxes and carts can be repurposed for storage, yard waste, or gardening tools—helping reduce what ends up at the Essex-Windsor Regional Landfill.
