Town of Amherstburg and Walker Announce Support for H. Murray Smith Centennial Park Redevelopment
August 21, 2026 — The Town of Amherstburg and Walker Industries Holdings Ltd. (“Walker”) are pleased to announce financial and material support for planned improvements at H. Murray Smith Centennial Park.
Walker is donating $100,000 to the park project. The donation will support several elements of the park improvements, including the new sports courts and proposed access areas. Walker will receive naming rights for the new sports courts in recognition of the company’s contribution to the project and its investment in the Amherstburg community.
The donation will help advance improvements to one of Amherstburg’s key recreation spaces, creating new opportunities for recreation, sports, and community activities.
“We are incredibly grateful to Walker for this generous donation,” said Mayor Michael Prue. “On behalf of the Town and our community, I want to thank Walker for its commitment to Amherstburg. This contribution of both funding and materials will play an important role in bringing these improvements to life and creating new recreational opportunities for residents and visitors.”
Construction at H. Murray Smith Centennial Park is expected to begin in fall of 2026 with further information coming in the following weeks.
"Walker takes tremendous pride not only in our operations, but more importantly in the strong relationships we've built together in the Town of Amherstburg," said Geordie Walker, President and CEO of Walker Industries. "As a fifth-generation Canadian family-owned and operated company, it is an honour to support a community with such a rich history and strong sense of pride. We are grateful to be part of Amherstburg's story and look forward to continuing to grow alongside the community for many years to come."
The announcement of this donation was accompanied by Walker's annual community open house, hosted by Walker employees. More than 400 community members took part in site tours, BBQ lunch, and the popular ‘Touch-a-Truck’ activity to experience heavy equipment up close.
Walker’s McGregor and Amherstburg Quarries play a critical role in the region’s infrastructure and provide high-quality aggregates to build the roads, bridges, homes, and highways that connect and support communities across the area.
"Today’s donation is a meaningful way for us to give back to the Town of Amherstburg and the broader Essex County, reaffirming our commitment to a community that continues to support our operations, and where many of our employees live, work, and raise their families," said Maurice Guimont, General Manager, Aggregates, Niagara & Essex. "Our team here is proud to supply quality aggregates and industry knowledge to help build a stronger Essex, and work alongside local organizations to create rewarding and impactful local careers."
The Town of Amherstburg thanks Walker for its generosity and continued commitment to community investment. Through its longstanding relationship with the Town, Walker has proudly supported many important local initiatives, including the recent expansion of the Libro Centre mountain bike trails, and local food pantry support.
