New Recycling Carts: Blue recycling carts are being delivered across the region this fall as Essex-Windsor prepares to transition to a single-stream recycling system beginning January 1, 2026.
This new system will make recycling easier and more convenient for residents. Instead of separating recyclables into blue and red bins, all recyclable materials will be placed together in a single blue cart. The carts also help reduce litter and offer greater storage capacity.
When your cart is delivered, please store it until the new year, as the new system begins on January 1, 2026.
Residents are reminded that this recycling program is managed by Circular Materials, not by the Town of Amherstburg or the Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority.
For full details about the transition to single-stream recycling, including delivery schedules, accepted materials, and frequently asked questions, please visit Circular Materials’ Amherstburg webpage
Smaller Carts: For those interested in exchanging to a smaller 240-litre cart, please visit Circular Materials' page to access the Recycling Cart Exchange Request Form

Blue Box Recycling (Residents & Eligible Sources): Starting August 28, 2024 the Blue Box Recycling Program is no longer administered by the Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority (EWSWA). Legislative changes have shifted this provincial program’s responsibility to Producers of paper and packaging products. Circular Materials is administering this program on behalf of Producers and has hired Green For Life Environmental Services Inc. (GFL) to provide collection services for the residential recycling program of Essex-Windsor. Residents are encouraged to continue to be great recyclers.
For residential recycling program questions contact GFL directly for: service inquiries / issues, bins / carts, for new builds / homeowners, etc.
