Emergency Preparedness Week in Amherstburg: May 3-9, 2026

The Town of Amherstburg Fire Department is recognizing Emergency Preparedness Week from May 3 to 9, 2026, by sharing important information, tips, and resources to help residents stay safe and ready for unexpected situations.

This year’s provincial theme, #PreparedTogether, highlights that emergency preparedness is a shared responsibility. Residents are encouraged to take simple but important steps to help protect themselves, their families, and the wider community.

Emergencies such as power outages, severe weather, or other unexpected events can happen at any time. Being prepared in advance can make all the difference. Having a well-stocked emergency kit ensures households have access to essentials like water, non-perishable food, first aid supplies, flashlights, and batteries. Residents can take advantage of emergency kit discounts here.

The Fire Department is also reminding residents to focus on three key steps to emergency preparedness:

  • Make a plan – Include emergency contacts, medical information, and utility shut-off procedures
  • Build an emergency kit – Ensure your household can be self-sufficient for at least 72 hours
  • Stay informed – Sign up for local alerts and monitor weather warnings

As part of the week, residents are encouraged to register for the Town’s emergency notification system, Amherstburg Alert, which provides timely updates during emergencies. A system test is scheduled for Friday, May 8 at 3:00 p.m.

The week also highlights important safety infrastructure in the community, including a publicly accessible Automated External Defibrillator (AED) located at the Libro Credit Union Centre fieldhouse. Installed through a partnership with Essex-Windsor EMS and Enbridge Gas via the Fueling Futures Program, the AED is available 24/7 and plays a critical role in saving lives during cardiac emergencies.

Throughout Emergency Preparedness Week, the Fire Department will continue to share resources and guidance across its communication channels, helping residents take proactive steps toward a safer, more resilient Amherstburg. Follow the conversation on social media with the hashtag #EPWeek2026
