Library

The Essex County Library is a system of 14 libraries that provide quality materials and services, free of charge, to all residents of Essex County. This system was established by County Council in January, 1966. It replaced the Essex County Co-operative, which was a loose federation of independent municipal libraries. Today, with the financial support of the County of Essex and the Province of Ontario, the County Library provides a collection of over 367,000 items and a wide range of services through its branch libraries.

The Town of Amherstburg has a library in the town centre as well as a library in McGregor which is shared with the Town of Essex.

The Town of Amhersburg's main Public Library, was financed by Andrew Carnegie and completed in 1913. It was built from limestone extracted from the quarry in Anderdon Township. The library was designed by Charles Howard Crane and opened in 1913. Today, a fully operational library system provides the community with current modes of information services.
